• I just added the NextGEN Gallery Plugin to my blog using the Back end engine. After installing, I clicked there on “Activation”. A blank screen came for quite a long time. I tried then to log in with my admin passwords again. That was succesful… but now I just get a blank screen instead of the adminstration bord for WordPress. I can’t change anything anywhere! Seems that NextGEN has caused some kind of big error. Can anyone please help me?! It’s urgent.

  • Try deleting the wp-content/plugins/next-gen folder using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    rename the nextgen-gallery/
    folder
this will deactivate the plugin and let you log in to test

Thanks. When i rename the folder nextgen-gallery, I can log in again. What could cause the bug? A lot of people work with nextGEN gallery, but I didn’t read of such problems.

What version of WordPress are you using? What other plugins are you running?

I’m using the latest version 3.0.1 with a german interface.
Installed and activated Plugins: WordPress Database Backup, WP Random Header, Local Time Clock.

You could try deactivating the other active plugins to see if that helps.

Thanks for the hint. I tried several times until I found out whit which plugin NextGEN Gallery isn’t compatible. It’s the Backup Plugin “WordPress Database Backup” which causes – once NextGEN is installed – the error again. So, I disactivated only this plugin and finally: NextGEN works.
Though I still have to learn very much about it. (I’m not receiving very nice results, Thumbnails don’t show up correctly, only 3 out of 22 and such things.)
Now I will look for another backup tool.

    Hi Raffael,

I also use the “wordpress database backup” plugin and nextgen. I had the same experience as you, with the white screen etc.

In fact I found that my problem was not from the database backup plugin, but because I had changed something in nggshow php file so that the title would not show in the slideshow.
Probably you didn’t do this, but if by chance you followed the same instructions posted on another forum (I forget which) to hide the title, then those instructions were incorrect. If this is the case let me know, it can be fixed.

    Hi Chentudou
Thank you for the hint. Well, I didn’t change anything in the configuration of NextGEN. In fact, I couldn’t use it until I deactivated that backup plugin.
I thought the best solution would be to look for another backup tool. With “Simple WordPress Backup” I wasn’t glad because I have no idea where it saves the database to (not to my hard disc). Reading the information, I decided that “WP Online Backup” would be great. I installed and activated the plugin – and guess what: the bug arrives again!!!
So, obiously NextGEN has a compatibility issue with several backup plugins (maybe only in the new WordPress 3.x). I would like to know which good backup plugin is compatible with NextGEN?

I’m using wordpress 3.0.1, nextgen 1.2 and wordpress database backup 2.2.2. all working fine together

    (@raffael-fischer)

I use the newest version of NextGEN 1.6.2 – the rest is the same: WP Database Backup 2.2.2 and WordPress 3.0.1.

(Btw: I also got the bug when trying to activate Akismet which I didn’t use until now.)

    correction… I am also using 1.6.2

so may be your server’s configuration.

So for now perhaps you could backup manually by downloading the directory you want to back up and dumping the database to your computer until someone can answer your question better.
