Can't edit permalinks, white screen for photo gallery and no thumbnails

    Hello everyone.

    We’re in the middle of updating a website. The original website remains on one host and we are building the new website on a different host with a new template and content. I’m not the programmer but the person responsible for the project.

    The original website contained a modest number of photos and these along with all of the content were copied over to the new host.

    We’re having the following issues:

    1. The thumbnails for the copied images don’t display in the media gallery for the photos that were copied to the new host. They display fine on the old host.

    2. We can not edit the permalinks on the development site. The permalink is highlighted but clicking the edit button does nothing.

    3. We seem to be hitting some kind of wall with images. All of the images we upload are 72dpi and 800 x 600 pixel. We’re using the same code for the layout of 3 images wide at 180pixel each.

    The images display fine in the editor for 13 images but any more than that and onsite we get a blank page – white screen of nothingness.

    Any suggestions for any of these issues will be greatly appreciated.

    1. WordPress’ media library runs off of a catalogue of media uploaded via the built-in uploader. If they weren’t upload via the built-in uploader, the media library in unaware of their existence. Fortunately, there is plugin just for that: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-from-server/

    2. Try adding define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false); to your wp-config.php file just below the define('DB_HOST' line.

    3. Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can affect the admin panel).

    Hi James,

    The only issue we are continually running into are pages with photos.

    72dpi and 800 x 600 pixel. We’re using the same code for the layout of 3 images wide at 180pixel each.

    The images display fine in the editor for 13 images but any more than that and onsite we get a blank page – white screen of nothingness.

    If we split the images over two pages and hard code them together so they appear as one page online then they will display.

    We’ve deactivated all the plug ins and tried with the default theme and still get the same results as with our custom templates.

    AT the moment this is affecting about 6 of our clients sites and the programmer is going nuts and wanting to change everything to Joomla 🙁 :~(

    The rest of the issues we’ve resolved thanks to your info.

    After giving this more thought I came to the conclusion that this was more table related than image related.

    I cam across this blog story Table Plugin to Fix WordPress

    Found there was already a plugin folder called TinyMCE on one of the websites and deleted by FTP and then reinstalled the plugin and everything works perfectly.

    Installed TinyMCE Advanced on another website that previously didn’t have it and it also fixed the problem there too.

    If this is such an issue that it needs a plugin why doesn’t WordPress address the issue in its core code?

    We’ve literally spent days trying to track down this issue.
