WP-Admin Orders Timout

This just started happening within the past two weeks, but every time I click on an order we receive a spike on the server and a timeout. I am unable to open any order right now. Everything else works in the back end.

I have increased memory to 512 on the php.ini file. I’ve gone into WooCommerce Status and run multiple tools and cleared out all scheduled actions.

From the information you’ve shared, it seems like the issue might be related to either a plugin conflict or a database issue.

Here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot this further:
1. Temporarily disable all plugins except WooCommerce to see if the issue persists. If it does not, enable the plugins one by one to identify the one causing the problem. Also, try switching to a default WordPress theme like Storefront to see if the issue is theme-related. More info: https://woo.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/
2. Your database size seems a bit large. You might need to consider optimizing it. You can use plugins like WP-Optimize for this.
3. While you’ve increased your PHP memory limit, it’s possible that your server’s resources are still being maxed out. You might need to contact your hosting provider to increase your server’s resources, like PHP Post Max Size from 8 MB to 2 GB.
4. Your PHP version is 7.4.33, which is not the latest. Updating to a newer version like PHP 8.1.27 might help as well.

It wasn’t the plugins or the template. The host is looking at the php upgrade on our VPS. Magically, this morning, I was able to open some orders then, a few minutes later, we started getting the timeouts again.

Thanks for trying the conflict test and contacting the host about upgrading the PHP version.

Were you able to check the database plugin my colleague suggested?

Can you please share the Fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs. Then you can use the selector to search for Fatal Errors.

Still no luck. I have installed Cloudflare now for side caching, run the database cleanup with WP-Optimize, tried disabling plugins, etc. but still having timeouts every time I click on an order to try and edit/open it. If I click the “Preview” eye icon on the order, the preview will pop up though.

I did check the logs and there are no fatal logs in the Status section of WooCommerce.

It’s good that you’ve taken the steps to optimize your database and install Cloudflare for caching.

Since you’re still experiencing timeouts when opening an order, it may be an issue with your server’s resources. Even though you’ve increased your PHP memory limit, the server resources might still be getting maxed out.

If you haven’t already, please contact your hosting provider and ask them to increase your server’s resources. Specifically, you might need to increase your PHP Post Max Size from 8 MB to 2 GB.

Well, after a lot of troubleshooting, I think I found the culprit. I completely removed the 8.6.1 WooCommerce and reinstalled the 8.5.1. The edit orders open right up. No timeouts, no issues. Not sure if there is a bug in here, but all of my other plugins have worked seamlessly with Woo for the past two years. Yes, I am on the new High Performance database also.

I appreciate the effort you’ve put into troubleshooting this issue. It’s interesting to note that you experienced no issues with version 8.5.1 of WooCommerce.

Just curious, were you able to have High Performance database turned off while troubleshooting in version 8.6.1? If not, could you try and check if the issue will persist?
