• I know enough to get by, but not enough to do more.
TwentyTen has only one page template loaded for me, Single with Side bar.
I want a page that would give me two columns or one with a sidebar that is slightly different so my first page could have content the other pages do not have.

I don’t know enough about css to start from scratch.

I would appreciate any help provided.

    Thanks.

  • There is a thirtyten theme in repository that is a child theme of twenty ten you could use that and setup sidebars as you wish.

    Hi,
A child theme and template pages is the way to go.

There is also the ‘twenty ten weaver’ theme that has seven sidebar options.

Fancy a bit of D.I.Y then working through some of my tutorials will not only give you the options you want, but the skills and satisfaction of doing it yourself.

The final first tutorial child theme is downloadable as well, so you could look at that and use just what you want.

I had a spare hour and I am sure it would be something others might want.

So I created a child theme template page solution, it just uses the ‘Secondary Widget Area’, this is already in the WordPress twenty ten theme, and a template page.

There is one changed files and two new files, and the required child themes style.css, which is used to load the parent theme.

Read the post for other scenarios, and download the child theme in the post.
