My client’s website features tons of products and, unfortunately, the descriptions for the products are not populating on the front-end. In the back-end, those products have a Product Blurb, a Description, Details and Options under the “Product Write-up” and Specifications and Geometries for the products under the “Frame Data”. These bits of information are not appearing on the front-end and I cannot determine why this is happening.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi nilesfig,

Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support. I understand you are having trouble with the product descriptions not showing on the front-end of your client’s website.

There are a few possible reasons why this might be happening, such as:

    • A conflict with your theme or another plugin
    • A missing product description

To troubleshoot this issue, please follow these steps:

    • First, make sure that you have the latest version of WooCommerce and WordPress installed on your site. You can check for updates in your WordPress dashboard under Dashboard > Updates.
    • Check your product page and make sure that you have entered the product description in the correct field. The product description should be in the main editor area, while the product short description should be in the excerpt box below the editor. You can also use the Product data meta box to add more details and options to your product, such as attributes, variations, shipping, inventory, etc.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be caused by a conflict with your theme or another plugin. To test this, you can try switching to a default WordPress theme (such as Twenty Twenty-One) and disabling all other plugins except WooCommerce. Then, check if the product descriptions show up on the front end. If they do, then you can reactivate your theme and plugins one by one until you find the source of the conflict.

I hope this helps you fix the issue and display the product descriptions on your client’s website.

Hi @afzalpansuvi! Thanks very much for your recommendations and insights.

I’ve realized that the issue is not with the product descriptions, but rather it’s an issue with a custom fields plugin. We have several custom fields set-up for each product page and it’s those custom fields that aren’t showing up.

We’re specifically using Advanced Custom Fields PRO for the custom fields, alongside Advanced Custom Fields: Font Awesome and Advanced Custom Fields: Table Field.

I’ve double-checked and the custom fields on the back-end for most product pages have content in them. I’m struggling to determine why these custom fields aren’t populating on the front end. Any other ideas?

    Hi there @nilesfig,

    Thank you for reaching out.

If the custom fields are populated on the back-end but not displaying on the front-end, it might be due to a theme or plugin conflict.

To troubleshoot this, try deactivating all your plugins except for the Advanced Custom Fields and see if the issue persists. If it is resolved, reactivate your plugins one by one to identify which one is causing the conflict.

If the issue persists after deactivating all plugins, try switching to a default WordPress theme like Storefront. You can find more details on performing a conflict test here.

Let us know how this goes.
