If I upload the files via FTP to a Sub directory, can I then move everything to the Root directory later?

OK….now I’m stuck again. My webhost admin gave me the following info (I’ve left out the details):

    MySQL Database Information
    Status:Setup
    Host Name:*******
    Database Name:*********
    Database Version:5.0
    Description:tandem-solutions.ca
    User Name:********

I’m not sure what he has done and which Step I’m at. When I look at my webspace with FTP…I don’t see anything that looks like a database setup…but perhaps I shouldn’t see anything. Do I just upload the files that I extracted from the zip…and then move on to Step 4??

looks like your host has set up your database so when you install it asks for your database information enter the information above.

what asks for the database information? You mean I upload all the WordPress files…and then I can execute an install from the host site?

once you have uploaded all wordpress files and folders to your directory

    http://yourdomainname.com/directory/wp-admin/install.php

then put in your address bar and follow install program instructions.

Go this link http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress and scroll all the down you will see images of what you will see in install program.

OK…I think I have it now! I’m understanding.

    Thanks!!!!!

Most hosts these days host your website on one server and any database on a separate server. This means that when you run the WP install (as mentioned above) you need to tell WP the location and details of the database (which is what you have above).
