• Hi, been trying to search posts here but not finding my exact issue.

I’ve just started a new website with WordPress, installed Astra theme. Plugins are: all-in-one WP migration, Elementor, Starter Templates, Under Construction, and WPForms Lite.

When I change my permalink structure to Postname, I get a JSON error whenever I try to create new pages or posts (can’t publish or open elementor to edit). However, I can create pages and posts when my permalinks are set to Plain.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

It seems I can create a page in plain, then switch back to postname to edit, but that feels roundabout and not a real fix.

Choosing a default theme rather than Astra also works, but seems weird I can’t use the most popular theme.

I’ve looked up my hta access file and it’s identical to the code suggested to copy/paste, switched off all plugins – they’re ok.

Could this be a hosting issue? I’m using Dreamhost, shared hosting.

    Any insight would be appreciated!

The reason for the error should be visible in the error log. You can find it in your hosting area. If necessary, the support of your hosting can help you.

Alternatively, you could also enable debugging in WordPress. How to do this is described here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/ – also here the support of your hosting can help you if necessary to edit the file accordingly.

In both cases you should be able to see what the cause is in the logfile.
