• Hi, First let me state that I’ve scoured google, usenet, and the WP knowledge base and haven’t had any luck with this. Second, I know it’s an IE problem as the site renders fine in several other browsers. I also know that WP isn’t in the business of supporting IE, but this only happens on WP sites – it even happens on wordpress.org itself (but main page only).

Now the problem. After rebooting my computer I can access my blog for a few hours, maybe days. But then something snaps and IE begins to choke on the XHTML and simply won’t render the content of the page. If I view source – it’s all there. I’ve even saved the page locally as test.htm and it still doesn’t render, so it’s not a server or internet issue. I also validated at w3.org and fixed all the little errors that were there. I’m using a modifed ExtraExtra theme.

    Here’s the site: http://www.marklauter.com/journal/

I’m using WP 1.5, IE 6ish. Maybe there’s an XML parser update that I need or something? I hope someone has come across this problem along the way… and please don’t say “don’t use IE cause it sucks” because I already know that. 🙂

Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this problem.

    Mark

  • Sounds like a problem with IE caching your page, try telling IE to cache more and see how it works. IE’s cache is very flakey. Theres another bug with IE when the cache is full you can only save a picture as a bitmap, yet if you clear it, you can save the image as its native format. Weird… but then again, it’s microsoft.

Yeah, cache is the first thing I thought of. There’s also a problem where you can’t “view source” when the cache is full. So I clear it every couple of weeks. I have increased the cache size and cleared it again today – hope this helps.

I will try to figure out what it is that happens right before IE goes flakey if it does again and will post here if I do.

Thanks for taking time to help out.

As far as I can tell manually clearing the cache (selecting files in internet temp folder and pressing delete) fixed the issue. IE seems to have stopped being able to clear the cache through the internet options menu. Go figure.

So thanks again for the help with this. I really am pleased with WordPress and I’m enjoying journaling about my photography now.

    Cheers,

Have you set IE to check for a new version of the page at every page access? That usually fixes IE wonkiness as to display for me….

Yeah. I have to keep it there for development reasons anyway. The wonkiness seems to have cleared up since clearning the cache manually.
