No Export function in old WordPress version? | WordPress.org

I’d like to move from WordPress.org to WordPress.com but can’t find a way to create a WXR file for WordPress.com to import. Do I really need to update my version first? I’m a relative novice and would like to avoid this if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend upgarding first.

Deactivate any plugins, switch to the default theme

I believe you can go from your version to 2.2, then 2.5, then 2.8

Once you have 2.8, you will have the auto-upgrade option

No reason to do anything until you have upgraded. Old plugins won’t work possibly, or old themes. So much has changed.
