    Hi,

I hope someone can help me out: The RSS feed for my blog (http://blog.mehrfrauenkennenlernen.com/feed/) is not working. My oldest post is showing in Google reader. The ones after that are not.

Here is the error message from feedvalidator.org:

Sorry This feed does not validate.
    * line 1, column 1: XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:1: not well-formed (invalid token) [help]

    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?><rss version=”2.0″
    ^

On http://feedvalidator.org/docs/error/SAXError.html, there is an explanation of the error message that I don’t understand.

I also found a discussion about this error message here.

Could someone tell me what to do to solve this problem?

Thanks a bunch in advance. I’m really frustrated and clueless at the moment.

    Tom

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    Thank you, Esmi!

I deactivated all plugins: same error message.
I switched the theme (from Thesis to default): no error message.
I activated all plugins while using the default theme: still no error message.
I switched back to Thesis: back to the same old problem…

Has any Thesis user had the same problem?

    Cheers,
    Tom

Please contact the theme vendor for support. Support should be included with the purchase, and they probably know the theme better than most of us.

OK, I found out what’s wrong!!

I’ve tried a couple of things to isolate the problem:
-Deactivated all plugins => same error message
-Switched from Thesis to the default theme => no error message!
-Reactivated all plugins while using the default theme => still no error message
-Switched back to Thesis => old error message back again => something in Thesis causes the problem

I then made a backup of the custom.css and custom_functions.php files. Next, I deleted the entire code in both files (in the custom file editor). => error message gone!!

I experimented with the code of both files (deleting parts of it here and there to find out what caused the problem) and figured out that there was something in custom_functions.php file. In the first line, there it was: “?<?php”. Deleted the first question mark and everything is running smoothly now. Don’t know if the first question mark was there from the beginning or if it somehow slipped in there, but that was the little bug that caused the mess…

    Thanks for your support,
    Tom
