Hi, when some customers try to download a digital product, they can report seeing an error ‘Sorry, you have reached your download limit for this file Go to shop

I have tried on several occasions to find a solution to this, and have seen that many other people are having the same problem. Today I discovered something which may explain whay this is happening.

When a customer makes a purchase, a download link appears for their product. If they click on this the product will go to their downloads folder. They are then sent a confirmation email. This email contains a download link. Despite the fact that they have already downloaded the product – some will try to use this link and it will generate the error – because the product has already been downloaded.

Some people don’t use the download link on the web page. Instead they wait for the email to arrive and click the download link in that. I discovered today that when I click on the link in the email, the product automatically downloads – but it still takes me to the original web page where I placed the order. That web page still contains a download link, and when I click on it, it generates the error – ‘Sorry, you have reached your download limit for this file Go to shop‘ . This happens because the product was automatically downloaded when I clicked on the link in the email, but many people may not realise that this has happened.

    A rethink is needed.

If a customer clicks the original link on the webpage, there should be a confirmation that the download has been sent, but there should NOT be a second link in the confirmation email.

If the customer clicks the link in the confirmation email instead, this should NOT automatically download the product. It should simply take them to the web page where the order was placed. Then when this link is clicked there should be a confirmation that the downlad has been sent.

Not everyone falls foul of this ‘error’, but a signifcant number are getting the ‘Sorry, you have reached your download limit for this file Go to shop‘ simply because this bug in the software and they have not paid quite enough attention to the process.

Please can we have a solution ASAP?

    Thank you
