    Hi there,

With Wordfence active we are unable to use the Elementor editor. The console shows a 500 error for /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

Have had similar issues before, but was able to resolve them by checking the live traffic log and allowlisting the blocked URL. This time however there is no log showing the blocked URL, despite multiple users having the same issue

Do we just manually add /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php to the allowlisted URLs?

Hi @carolineelisa, thanks for reaching out!

I would expect an action that results in a Wordfence block to appear in Live Traffic as a 403 or 503 so a 500 seems to suggest that you’re getting a PHP Fatal Error somewhere during the submission. When you say, “With Wordfence active…” does that mean you’ve tried with Wordfence turned off and get a different result? Have you also tried the firewall in Learning Mode to see if the Elementor editor submission goes through?

If you only experience the 500 error with Wordfence active, I’d certainly look at your PHP/server error logs at the time of one of these errors to see if you can get a more detailed message about what precisely is going wrong. If the file or message is clearly related to Wordfence, by all means paste it here so we can take a look at what might be happening.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Thanks Peter

Yes, we only get the 500 error with Wordfence active

For now I must leave Wordfence deactivated so my client can edit the site. I will get back to debugging when he is done.

    Thanks for the update @carolineelisa,

If your PHP error logs aren’t easily accessible, sometimes the host or server administrator may need to assist. These should give a precise file, line-number and error message that would assist us in understanding what’s happening. By all means get back to us when you’re able to view this.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
