• Hi. I’m a fairly new user, and I’m trying to edit some menus on my website. Previously it was easy under the Appearance -> Menus selection, but since I last logged in, clicking the Menus link sends me to my website /404 and it says page not found. I don’t think that I’ve changed anything since last login so don’t really know whats going on. Any help appreaciated.

Can you get there by manually typing the URL into your browser?

If you can, there’s something wrong with the admin menu links. This is possible but unlikely. Assuming you still get a 404 response, verify if the file is really there in your WP installation. Check by using FTP or your hosting file manager.

If it’s there, check the file’s permissions. Permission should typically be 644 and the file owned by the user WP runs as, often “www-data”. This can vary by host though. If the file exists and its owner and permissions are correct, the server’s modSecurity or .htaccess could be interfering.

If the file is simply not there, you WP installation has been corrupted. Try using the Re-install WordPress button on the updates admin screen, or updating if that’s what the button is calling for.
