Moving my site to new host

Hello @androidandreas in this case I believe if you have the technical know-how you can follow a step-by-step guide to move your website from one host to another.

You can migrate your website using a plugin called “All-in-One WP Migration” it has the free and pro version.

Step 1: Install and Activate the Plugin

1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard on the website you want to migrate.
2. Navigate to the “Plugins” section and click on “Add New.”
3. In the search bar, type “All-in-One WP Migration” and press Enter.
4. Locate the plugin in the search results, click “Install Now,” and then activate it.

Step 2: Export the Website

1. In the WordPress dashboard, you’ll now see a new menu item called “All-in-One WP Migration.” Hover over it and click on “Export.”
2. Choose “Export to File” as the export method. This will create a downloadable file of your website.
3. The plugin will start the export process, and when it’s done, it will provide you with a link to download the export file (a .wpress file). Click the link to download the file to your computer.

Step 3: Import to the New Host

1. Set up a new WordPress installation on your new web host.
2. Install and activate the “All-in-One WP Migration” plugin on the new WordPress installation, just like you did on the old site.
3. In the WordPress dashboard of the new site, go to “All-in-One WP Migration” > “Import.”
4. Click on “Import From” and select “File.” Upload the .wpress file you downloaded in Step 2.
5. The plugin will start importing the website. This may take a while, depending on the size of your site.

Step 4: Adjusting Permalinks (if necessary)

1. After the import is complete, you might need to adjust your permalinks if they’re not working as expected. Go to “Settings” > “Permalinks” and make sure the correct structure is selected. Click “Save Changes” to update the permalinks.

Step 5: Update URLs (if necessary)

1. Sometimes, after migrating, internal links might still point to the old domain. To fix this, you can use the “Better Search Replace” plugin or manually update the URLs in the database.
2. If you prefer using a plugin, install and activate “Better Search Replace.” Search for the old domain and replace it with the new one. Always make a backup before making database changes.

If your domain subscription hasn’t ended on your current web host, advise you to apply for a domain transfer on the new host, You’d need to unlock the domain on your current web host and be required to provide an EPP code
