Hello. I have Defender on a site that has Sucuri firewall enabled. When I the plugin and I check the IP settings I can see that it is showing my IP address as Sucuri and not as my own.

When I look at Detect IP Addresses settings they all show the Sucuri IP. Except for “Enable X-Forwarded-For HTTP header. Use this only if you have a front-end proxy, or else spoofing may occur.” option. This option however is showing as follows:

    Detected IP(s): Sucuri IP
IP Settings: MY IP, Sucuri IP

That still has sucuri IP and not solely my IP. What setting should I use here?

Can I disable the IP logging side of things?

    Hi @katmacau,

That still has sucuri IP and not solely my IP

The above is the expected behaviour, with the “Enable X-Forwarded-For HTTP header. Use this only if you have a front-end proxy, or else spoofing may occur.” option enabled.

Typically, the plugin recognizes the client’s IP when the site uses a proxy, and in the IP settings you highlighted i.e.:
IP Settings: MY IP, Sucuri IP

Generally, if the proxy is configured correctly, the client IP is the leftmost in the header.

For more information, please refer to this link:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Forwarded-For#Format

As Sucuri seems to implement a Reverse proxy, you can keep the “Enable X-Forwarded-For HTTP header” option enabled and also ensure to include your IP in the ‘Edit Trusted Proxies‘ field.

Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

    Best Regards,

    Nithin

Thank you for clarifying. That’s very helpful. I’ve enabled that setting now. I was confused as to why there were 2 IPs but makes sense now.
