I don’t use Word Fence. What exactly is the issue you’re seeing and where?

Can you post screenshots of this ideally.

Well, in Wordfence Live Traffic, the targeted URL and the Referrer URL were somehow wrong. I explained at the end of the post, please read.

    No errors, nothing pointing anywhere.

I had to disable 41 plugins one by one to find the conflict. And it was TOP 10.

I’m not a developer but i have a lot of experience in issues related to WordPress, since i’m dealing daily with those as a webmaster of several sites. It seems that TOP 10 plugin (and/or its widgets) somehow messes up with URLS, permalinks or something like that.

That can’t be explained with captures, only using Wordfence and see Live Traffic.

Sorry i can’t provide any more information.

I just tried installing WordFence on my test site and then browsed it anonymously. I can see the left/visited is being tracked properly.

I then disabled Top 10 and continued browsing. It continued to display properly.

Renabled Top 10 and continued browsing and it’s continued to track properly.

Top 10 doesn’t touch any permalinks or modify referers so I can’t even figure out how this could be cause the referers to be reversed.

@ajay I will do further tests in my staging server and if i find something, i will update here.

To be honest, yes, a plugin like TOP 10 was not a suspect messing with permalinks or urls. It is strange.

The issue seems to be with the Counter/Tracker type. For example with the Rest API, in Wordfence, it logs:

Left url xxx and visited https : // web site tld/wp-json/top-10/v1/tracker

With Query type, I had the issue i posted in my original Wordfence post.

With Ajaxurl based SEEMS to work right. I will have to test more on the live system and again update here.

So Type 1 and 2 have issues with Wordfence.

Ajaxurl based tracker/counter works right so far. No issues.

I had spotted this in my logs and realise now the confusion on this.

The way I understand Wordfence tracks Live views is that they screen any URLs that are access on the front end of your website. When you select the tracker as Query variable, this is the homepage. For REST API, this is the tracker link you posted above. For Ajax, it is not a front end link but to /wp-admin/admin-ajax which gets ignored from live tracking.

This is normal behaviour and is not a real “movement” from your site. I’m not sure if Wordfence allows you to ignore these links. Otherwise, you can just ignore these two. Obviously, if you are not comfortable seeing this in your logs, you can pick the Ajax method which as you noted doesn’t show up in the logs.

To clarify, this isn’t a bug, but it’s both plugins doing their job, i.e. Top 10 tracking and Wordfence flagging access.

@ajay Right. I’m not sure this is only a visual Wordfence thing (with Query and Rest api) because Wordfence also does Rate Limiting with visits and 404s and i have no idea how those are counted. I haven’t tested.

Anyways, since Ajax method works, i’m good.

    Thank you
