Hi,

The OP just wants a different output for the first post if I am reading it right?

This is untested code, and just the ‘loop’, it is a cut down version of the twenty ten loop.php, you will have to modify it for your theme.

It uses a counter to switch the output

This is the basic structure if it helps more!

<?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); // Start the loop ?>

	<?php $counter+=1 ; // Update the Counter ?>

	<?php if($counter > 1): // Not the first post so title and meta ?>

	<?php else : // This is our first post ?>

	<?php endif; // End the if statement ?>
<?php endwhile; // End the loop ?>

Two calls to the database instead of the one!

Still thanks to esmi and Samuel I discovered this since version 3.0
wp_reset_postdata();

After looping through a separate query, this function restores the $post global to the current post in the main query

Until now I have been using a $temp_post for a page and category output.

Page Title
Page Content (text)
global $post;
$tmp_post = $post;
//Create a query for the category
-run query
-Do Loop
//Reset our page to get the comment
$post = $tmp_post;
Page Comments

But it look like now I can use wp_reset_postdata(); to return to main page post to retreive the comments.
