I’m having this issue too– when I click on a thumbnail and get the overlay full image, there’s no way to close that and return to my previous browsing location. Am I missing something??
Bumping this, in case anyone knows of a fix… thanks!
another bump, this is frustrating me, nice to know i am not the only person!
And again a bump. I really would like to have this too 🙂
Another bump, 2 months later. Can’t assume that the visitor knows to click the image to close it.
There’s a lot of posts on this an no exact answer. Some were saying to use the JW Imagebrowser instead, but then it has that branding that may not be desired. Also if you are using a slideshow in another area of the site there’s only one set of settings and you may not want that for your gallery.
To get around this I just added the text [click image to close] in the description of the image. This shows under the image when viewing.
Would love to know if there’s a better answer.
I use this plugin now:
http://www.pedrolamas.com/projectos/jquery-lightbox-en/
After installing and activating goto Gallery->Options->Effects and select “Lightbox”.
This adds support for browsing through the images using the keyboard, but also shows a title and a “Close [X]” option to the pictures.
Example on the mentioned website. But you can also look on my website: http://www.dennisebben.nl/wp/?page_id=17&album=7&gallery=1
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/adding-close-button-x-and-customizing-controls?replies=15 looks promising, I haven’t tried it, but some users in the thread are telling that the solution suggested there is perfect.
Usually this problem is caused by using both Nextgen and another image plugin such as Simpleviewer JS. Disable other plugins and you will probably find a conflict.
