• I have the theme twentyten.
I use the navigation bar at the top for my pages, which include subpages.

    For example:
    Telephone List
    -Telephone Extensions
    -MSN Addresses

However, not ALL my ‘pages’ have content, just the subpages. The ‘Telephone List’ page is empty, but the ‘Telephone Extensions’ has the content.

    How can i manage this?

I could create an intro for the ‘Page’ but i think it’s a waste of time!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do?

Some pages don’t have SUBPAGES so this will not be something across the site. Well, i think only the HOME Page is a single page.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • You can create menus to handle all the pages.

I do that on my site. The menu items in the navigation bar are all pages.

Thanks Michael, that’s exactly what i need!
Can you help me do that to my site?

    Thanks!

    Sure, I can help.

First, do you know how to create a menu and add sub-items?

I haven’t made a menu before but i’ve seen it around.
Does this mean i have to redo my pages?!

At the moment i have pretty much 70% of my pages complete. They are pages and subpages… Well really, just subpages…

OK, so i created a MENU called Backup and want to include ‘office’ and ‘telehouse’ as submenus. I can’t work out how to do this… it puts backups, office and telehouse all individual pages not subpages πŸ™

I made this video for you.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks, Michael!
    That’s great!

1 thing though… instead of recreating my already listed ‘subpages’, i was fiddling around and was able to select the subpage. So i guess i just need to to ensure subpages are slightly to the right, right?

I guess i only need to use that URL box for external address/pages. Is that correct?

    Thanks!!!

Michael, since i started making menus, none but the homepage work! I get 404… πŸ™
    any ideas?

I’ve even selected it back to say *BLANK* menu so its how was before, but the links don’t work!

Make sure you use the correct URL in that box.

Use them even for internal links.

Yep, well just as it ‘kind’ of broke my links, i removed the menus altogether! So now my standard navigation is there, but the links are broken! For example, for Windows Live Messenger addresses, the link was: http://cmchristianw2k8/address-list/msn-address-list. Even if i browse ‘http://cmchristianw2k8/address-list/msn-address-list/’ it doesn’t display! πŸ™

But the page exists on WP-ADMIN and is indeed that link!

    http://cmchristianw2k8/address-list/msn-address-list

That is not a complete URL, it is missing the .(dot) extension.

Ahh well the site is local and installed locally πŸ™‚

OK, it will be difficult to tell you what is happening since it a local install.

    Michael

Why not just add Telephone Extensions or ‘any page you want’ twice and make one parent and the other child menu item.

Then on the right of the ‘top level’ item click the title or the little arrow, and just change the caption to ‘Telephone List’, if the visitor clicks on Telephone List they get ‘Telephone Extentions’.

I have menu items on my website for tutorials that are linked to posts or pages with different names!
