[UNPROCESSABLE_ENTITY] Failed Order but Payment went through

Hello, occasionally my storefront experiences this issue and I’ve started investigating why this occurs; it is random and not consistent as some orders go through without an issue. Basically, user enters their Credit Card info on the page, and, after submitting, the result is a Failed Order notification on my end. What is more puzzling is that PayPal sends a confirmation email that the payment went through to the customer as well as me, however the WooCommerce order fails with the error noted below.

I am using the following versions of plug-ins

WooCommerce 7.4.0

WooCommerce PayPal Payments 2.0.4

Here is the error I get in the order details:

Failed to process the payment. Please try again or contact the shop admin. [UNPROCESSABLE_ENTITY] The requested action could not be performed, semantically incorrect, or failed business validation. https://developer.paypal.com/docs/api/orders/v2/#error-ORDER_NOT_APPROVED PayPalGateway.php:525 [UNPROCESSABLE_ENTITY] The requested action could not be performed, semantically incorrect, or failed business validation. https://developer.paypal.com/docs/api/orders/v2/#error-ORDER_NOT_APPROVED OrderEndpoint.php:327 Order status changed from Pending payment to Failed.

This error response can occur under different circumstances, and from the error alone it’s not easy to tell what would cause it periodically for you.

To better judge what could be causing this, we are interested in a copy of your WooCommerce system report.

Hi @zoonars

Thank you for sharing the system report.

The error ORDER_NOT_APPROVED is coming from PayPal and could occur when the payment process is not in the correct order.
To learn more about this behavior, I suggest enabling Logging from the Connection tab.
The plugin will then log the activity, which helps us better understand what is happening. The logs also contain a Debug ID which helps the PayPal Merchant Technical Support to identify eventual issues on the PayPal side.
Beyond enabling logging, we recommend connecting a PayPal sandbox account and performing test payments to see if you can reproduce the behavior.

Hello @zoonars

The best way to work with us (when such details are required to be exchanged) is via a private engagement. You can find the details on how to create such an engagement with us via this link.

When you provide us with the new logs, you might also want to share a screenshot of the order notes with us. I will mark this thread as resolved and wait for the private engagement to be opened with us, so we can continue this investigation.
