Inconsistencies in statistics

    Hi,
    We had some problems with a website’s statistics for the last year, with stuff not updating as it should. And we had to recreate ActionScheduler tables to make it work correctly again.

    This morning, my client told me some orders where not in the websites’ statistics, my first idea was to clear the statistics cache in WooCommerce > Status > Tools tab. And it worked, but there are still inconsistencies I don’t get.

    For example on a given day there was one order of 16K on the website. That’s what I see in the order’s list and also what shows in the order’s analytics view.

    But when I open the income view (I don’t know if I’m using the right terms, the backend is in french), for this date, I get this :

    With a total of 14.2K instead of 16K and some strange voucher calculation (when no voucher had been applied on this order). Here’s the order details :

    Any idea what’s going on ?

    Hi,

    Sorry to hear about that discrepancy, this is odd.

    I’ve seen one similar case, where one of our colleagues resolved the issue.

    Please go to your backend, under Analytics > settings.

    Please check if the date type is set to date created and save.

    Then clear the analytics cache (Under WooCommerce > status > tools > clear analytics cache).

    Then you can import the historical data into the analytics.

    Let us know if this worked for you.

    Thanks for getting back on this ! It worked by simply changing the setting to date created and clearing the cache.

    Regarding Historical data, I was never prompted to do so, I believe. And when I go on the setting page to do so, it’s hanging in the “initialization” phase and nothing happens (I tried leaving the window opened for 2 hours but nothing changed).

    I know it’s not the subject of the topic, but do you have any idea why this is not working ?

    Glad to hear that the initial issue is resolved!

    Regarding Historical data, I was never prompted to do so, I believe. And when I go on the setting page to do so, it’s hanging in the “initialization” phase and nothing happens (I tried leaving the window opened for 2 hours but nothing changed).

    It’s possible that something is interfering with importing Analytics.

    I’d recommend first disabling any caching and/or security plugins you have enabled and re-starting the import of historical data as it’s possible that there may be a caching/security plugin causing an issue here.

    If this makes no difference, would you please share a copy of your sites System Status Report so that we can have a better understanding of your sites current environment.

    You can find this via WooCommerce → Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

    Once you have that, you can share the results in your response here.

    Thanks for getting back to me. I have WP Rocket installed on the website, it’s the only tool I use for caching, no security plugin is installed. I tried deactivating WP Rocket but it did not correct the problem.

    I understand that even after disabling the WP Rocket plugin, the issue still exists, correct?

    Checking your site’s SSR, I can see that you have a lot of pending tasks on your site which may have hampered the importation of historical data on your site. Please try to run them manually by going to WooCommerce > Status > Scheduled Actions > Pending and see if this resolves the issue here?

    Hi and thanks for getting back to me.

    I checked the pending scheduled actions, we know there are a lot, and we’re currently looking into this to reduce them, but most of them are WP Rocket preloading cache for the numerous pages (we have 1’200 products on the website, 20-30 categories, tags, etc. and multiple languages).

    But I could not find any task in there that would fit the description of “importing historical data”. I tried clicking “stop import” (because it was running non-stop but nothing was happening) in the historical data page, and I re-ran the import.

    Do you confirm that the tasks names are these ones :

    wc-admin_import_batch_init_customers
    wc-admin_import_batch_init_orders

    After clicking the button, I checked to see if any new action had been created, and I was able to find those, in the pending list.

    Is there any way to force them executing above all others ?

    First you can check the cron jobs, you can use the WP-Crontrol to monitor the cron jobs, I’ve seen it is one of the plugins installed on your site.

    You can go to WooCommerce > status > scheduled actions > pending, and manually run it.

    If the issue persists, you can switch the site theme to Storefront temporarily, and then disable all plugins except WooCommerce. Check again to see if the issue persists, (I mean you can try to import the historical data) if it works, it means a conflict was affecting the site, and you can then switch back your theme to the original one, and reactivate the rest of the plugins, until you find the culprit (What is stopping the historical data to be imported).     Let us know if that makes a difference.

    I was able to clear all pending tasks and run the process. It seems to be alright now, I know I’ll still have to fix other issues with pending tasks to avoid this from happening again.

    But you’ve helped me through the topic’s problem and some more, so I’ll mark this as resolve and keep all this in mind for the future.

    Hi,

    Regarding this problem, last week my client was surprised not to see his last sales appear in the dashboard widget’s analytics. He’s grown suspicious of this widget because it often seems to be missing orders (and it did not help that we had lots of problems with scheduled actions, not refreshing analytics at all).

    How often does WooCommerce refresh this widget ? Is this normal behavior to have some missing orders on a given day ? The next days the analytics were fine again.

    It might be linked to cron, but I have now setup a cron task executing wp-cron every five minutes and disabled WP-CRON in the wp-config. So it should be ran often enough for the widget to get updated.

    Let me know if you can give me some technical insights on how that works !

    Regarding this problem, last week my client was surprised not to see his last sales appear in the dashboard widget’s analytics. He’s grown suspicious of this widget because it often seems to be missing orders (and it did not help that we had lots of problems with scheduled actions, not refreshing analytics at all).

    From my testing, the widget order number should update within seconds of placing the order. However, the order status must be set to either processing or complete, on-hold orders will not be counted.

    May I ask if you’ve disabled WooCommerce admin with the following filter?

    add_filter( 'woocommerce_admin_disabled', '__return_true' );

    Hi,

    Nope, I did not deactivate WooCommerce Analytics with this hook. But since I had problems with the analytics not being updated because of scheduled tasks being clogged, I assumed a background task was updating the analytics every X minutes or hours.

    I believe WC is keeping a table separate for analytics (for indexing and speed purpose I imagine), so I thought that was causing a delay. It should not be the case ? If the order is in the right status it should show up in the dashboard widget immediately ?

    Yes, the widget should update within seconds of placing the order. In the future, if you encounter any buggy behaviour in analytics, you can try clearing the the cache WooCommerce > Status > Tools.
