This is my first time posting so please bear with me. I’ve entered several events in my plugin that display fine on a desktop or tablet when viewing the Event Calendar page on my website. I can also switch between months (forward and backward) and the events display fine – again on a desktop or tablet.

However, when using a mobile device (either an iPhone or Android) the Event Calendar page comes up fine for the current month, but, when I switch months (forward or backward), the calendar goes blank and no events are displayed. If I select a date on which I know there is an event, the display shows a small summary of the event without the “More Detail” button and the event title highlighted. If I select the event title, the “More Detail” page appears along with the map.

I’m confused as to why this is only happening on mobile devices and am sure it’s something easy and/or stupid that I’m doing or not doing.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who may have a solution or suggestion. Thanks!

  • I have seen similar posts on this forum and it got resolved by switching to version 5.12.1 of the Events Manager plugin. You might give that a try. You can get version 5.12.1 by following the instructions on this page (use Option 1): https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/download-older-versions-of-wordpress-plugins/

Thanks for the reply. I’ll give this a try if I can figure it out. Although I do wonder why an earlier version of Event Manager would work and NOT the subsequent releases / updates? You would think if something was working, it should stay working with future improvements?

    Yes, you would think so.

I downloaded version 5.12.1 of Events Manager and was starting to prepare to test it, but had a couple things to check first.

    1. The documentation says to try the older version on a staging website first and I’m such a novice that I don’t know what that means. It seems to me that I’d have to pull the active website down (ie, for maintenance), install the older plugin version, deactivate the current version plugin, activate the older version plugin, then see if it works? Is that correct? How do the current Events get moved to the older plugin version? Do I have to re-enter them? Lots of questions, I know but I have never done this before.

    2. During this time, I found a friend who also runs the Events Manager plugin on their website (it’s version 6.1.1) and it displays similarly across all 3 platforms (desktop, tablet, and mobile). That led me to thinking that maybe it’s not the usage of an older version that is my solution, but rather, something I’m doing wrong with my current formatting of the Events Manager plugin that’s not allowing it to display correctly on mobile devices?

Again, lots of questions, sorry! Maybe this isn’t the correct forum to get the help I need? But, I hope someone has a comment or idea for me.

    Thanks,

    Britt

Can you try disabling all other plugins and switching to the default theme (e.g., Twenty Twenty-Three) and see if you still see the problem? The problem might be caused by a conflict with another plugin or with the theme that you’re using. If it works after that then enable the other plugins one at a time to see which one is causing the problem.

I’ve got a test website I set up for testing things (brittbuhl.com) and have the following to report.

    1. I installed the plugin Events Manager to this website, there are 4 other plugins installed and all are deactivated. I started using the theme Twenty Twenty-Three. I’ve set up the Events Manager software the same as it is on my current website where I’m experiencing the initial problems reported (website: aapinalcounty.org).
    2. I entered two events for testing, one on April 21 (today, the current month) and one on May 19, next month.
    3. I set up a new page (Coming Events) on which I placed a shortcode to display the Events Manager calendar (just like my current website)..
    4. The current month display shows today’s event. When I switch to May (either way you can) – the May event DOES NOT display – but, if you click on May 19, the event summary appears (just like on my current website).
    5. Now, the fun part. I go to switch themes to see if that could be the problem. I try another default theme Twenty Twenty-One and when I select “Live Preview” the Events Manager software works as I believe it should – displaying both the April and May events and it continues to show both of them when you switch back and forth. o, I select ACTIVATE the theme and, lo and behold, the Events Manager display reverts back to NOT SHOWING THE MAY EVENT.
    6. The same phenomenon occurs if I switch back and forth between 2021 and 2023 themes. This is totally confusing to me.

I feel like I’m losing my mind, but I know this stuff is happening, and I really hope someone has some advice or ideas!!!!

I see the same problem on your test site but it’s not limited to mobile (I see the same problem on the desktop). What is the shortcode you are using?

    Thread Starter Britton

    (@brittbuhl)

Yes, I forgot to mention that the problem on the test site is happening across all platforms and not just mobiles (as it is on aapinalcounty.org).

I’m beginning to think it may be tied to the shortcode – of which I know nothing about. It is:

    [events_calendar long_events=”1″ calendar_size=”small” limit=”3″ has_search=”1″ scope=”all”]

I copied this from some Events Manager documentation long ago when I first started using the plugin. I’m using the same shortcode on both websites.

Thanks so much for your help – I’m very new to this stuff!

    Try the following shortcode instead: [events_calendar long_events=1 full=1 show_search=1 has_search=1]

It worked great! Thanks so much! My site aapinalcounty.org is now fixed to display on mobiles! You’re awesome!
