    Hello everyone,

    I have a question: my website is under construction at the moment. and is run by the template Lay theme.

    Today I received a mail: “A new comment on the post “xxx” is waiting for your approval”

    Of course it was a bullshit spam comment:

    I am worried and I am wondering:
    1. All pages are private (I am a photpgrapher, so the comment was to a picture)
    2. how could this person see the picture and comment it, even if everything is private and I have no comment options.

    Rest-assured, something like that was not left by a human.

    Spam comments are primarily left by bots that scrape the web for comment endpoints and are annoyingly prevalent, just like spam emails.

    And, just like spam emails, you’ll need to take steps to protect yourself from spam comments: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/understand-comment-spam/

    A plugin called Akismet is included with all new WordPress installations, and that’s the one I recommend: https://wordpress.org/plugins/akismet/

    Hello James,

    thank you very much for your quick answer and the plugin recommendation. But I still do t understand, how this thing could find the image, even if it’s not online any more. But I guess, that’s the deep dark secrets of the matrix….

    If they left a comment, it’s definitely online. 😉

    As long as it’s in your media library, it still has an attachment page.
