Thanks for this plugin. It’s been consistently wonderful.

I would like share a feedback that ideally for all common query strings (fbclid, utm, gclid) plugin shouldn’t bypass the cache nor it should serve a verified response.

# I got response time of 39 ms

https://example.com/

# When I added a query string, the response time was 300ms+

https://example.com/?utm

Well, I didn’t mean to visit again to see HIT response but I did, at least this time also the response was bypassed.

Ignoring query strings can greatly improve site performance and server load.

Although I certainly agree on the marketing/ tracking examples (which means most of the exhaustive list), I am not a fan of ignoring ao_noptimize means it is no longer possible to troubleshoot issues when autoptimize is active as the page cache will keep on serving the autoptimized page. Taking into account that ao_noptimize is only used for troubleshooting and should not occur “in the wild” I propose NOT to ignore it 🙂

I appreciate your prompt response. I do agree that, given the popularity of AO, ao_optimize can be safely left to serve strictly uncached responses for debugging purposes.

If a url contains any google analytics parameters such as fbclid, utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content, the url is served via main page cache.

Wow! That’s good to know.

You know how I checked it, I simply appended ?fbclid hence I got slow response but as I added fbclid= or the utm example shared in your blog, the response was quick as expected.

Actually, I was deeply concerned about this thing because some of my clients uses special Push Notification system who add some unique query strings. It may not be possible to handle all cases so If you could kindly add a text area in the plugin where if user list their preferred ignored query strings (including few defaults that plugin is already doing, great)

So,

if query parameter contains any of these listed words such as *query1*, either single or paired, then simply ignore it. That’s how I am thinking.

I have added that constant as per instructions provided in the tutorial

However, it doesn’t seems to serve the cached response consistently on any random query strings, the response time are huge 400ms (which ideally should be around 200-250ms)

The page is served via cache. you should be sure that the page was cached before you analyze it.

I see, it is showing PHP. Could you please confirm if we can serve it via Apache Rewrite module or not?

Since we use Push Notification system that delivers high traffic with some query strings, suddenly hitting 100+ requests quickly raise the CPU usage.

So, I wonder if there will be .htaccess method it could be more efficient. What do you think?
