Sooooooo I have the EXACT same problem, looks like it appeared sometime after 2/21/2023 (last time I got a “Some plugins were automatically updated” message.)
Current version: 6.1.1
I’m “assuming” some update hit ~2/21/2023 which borked future updates… I cant update or install any plugins. Server rebooted (no impact). I can hit the update button, the page hangs on the maintenance page for 10-20 min then were back up and running but no updates have been performed.
Assuming there’s some way to pull logs but not 100% sure how to do this,
Any insight would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

@chriskinney66 Are you using the plugin Astra Starter Templates? if yes, the replies in the plugin’s specific forum could be helpful: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/astra-sites/

Solution:
This issue is being caused by a bug in the Starter Templates plugin that has now been fixed.
If your site is stuck in maintenance mode, you can fix that by deleting the “.maintenance” file in your main WordPress directory (probably /public_html)
To update to the fixed version of the plugin:
- Deactivate the Starter Templates plugin (since it’s breaking the updater)
- Update the Starter Templates plugin to 3.1.26 or higher
- Reactivate the Starter Templates plugin
Thanks pikamander2,
If I deactive the template plug-in will I loose all the website content? Will it keep all content the same? I just want to confirm I wont loose any info. Thanks!
How do I deactivate a plugin?
