I’m currently building a site and I’m using (and have paid for an annual subscription for) dFlip. I purchased a single domain license for my client. I do all of my development work on my local machine, then push it to my staging server for testing, etc., before finally pushing it to the production server. The problem is I can only access dFlip on one of the servers. Other plugins allow a single license to be used on dev, staging and prod servers as long as the plugin developer knows what the URLs are.

How can I get dFlip to work like other plugins that allow full use on dev, staging and prod servers?

    Hi,

Some valid staging sites are listed at Freemius:
    https://freemius.com/help/documentation/selling-with-freemius/license-utilization/

Those can be used as dev sites without consuming any quota.

    Best Regards,

Yeah, well I use my own server. I have other plugins purchased from Freemius and those developers allow me full use of the plugins on my dev, staging and prod. Are you saying there’s no way to grant permission to use on a dev or staging server?

I didn’t say you cannot. We also use our plugins in stagings servers. You can use dev staging subdomains. As listed on the link. What made you think that there is no way?

    I am confused now.

What is your staging server url?

    Thanks for your reply.

I would prefer to give you my domains in a private message. But to give you an idea:

    Dev (MAMP Pro): name:8888

    Staging: privateserver.com/staging/name

    Prod: finaldomain.com

Please let me know how I can give you the actual domains through a private message.

    Thanks

I should mention that on our private server the staging directory is password protected, and therefore is not accessible to anyone except our client and our development team.

    Hi,

We follow what freemius supports and the tlds and subdomains that are supported are mentioned at: https://freemius.com/help/documentation/selling-with-freemius/license-utilization/

Also the localhost is also supported.

You can create a subdomain and it should work. It’s your server, so use subdomains that follow such rules and it will work. It’s just staging process, not that it has to be a fixed name like in production. Staging can be done on anyname.

Just have a staging subdomain: staging.privateserver.com/name

    Instead of folder: privateserver.com/staging/name

I created the subdomain (example): staging.name.privateserver.com which redirects to privateserver.com/staging/name

Currently dFlip works on my staging server but does not on my dev server.

I logged in to Freemius and viewed my domains. Interestingly, it shows as “Active” on my dev server (name:8888), but “Deactivated” on my staging server. This is exactly the opposite of what I see in the WordPress admin area.

Here is what I see when trying to activate on my dev server.

Why am I having problems with my dev server?

Redirecting is still a non-valid staging server. For you non-valid staging dev server another license is required.

We strongly recommend using subdomains for staging. We cannot issue staging licenses for subfolders.

It’s amazing how different plugin developers treat their paid users. I have numerous plugins from Iconic and they have been so helpful and accommodating with this very same issue.

I’m disappointed with how rigid this response has been, especially because I’ve been so pleased with the functionality of the plugin.

    Hi,

We follow what the freemius platform is providing. We are not saying we do not provide free license to staging sites. Many customers/developers are following the pattern and are using it.

Please be flexible and use a valid staging domain, it will work. Staging domains can have custom names that follow that pattern. They need not be fixed like the production domain.

    Best Regards,

    DearHive
