I noticed when using column identifier “bp_avatar” in a CSV (to update Buddypress images) and inputting the URL to an image that my jpeg was cropped significantly where you could only see a portion of the image.

Is the import tool looking for a specific size image here? Or is there a way to adjust the crop settings in the plugin?

Look at this code, this is how it works. Function import_avatar_raw in https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/import-users-from-csv-with-meta/trunk/addons/buddypress.php

I can include some filters there if you want to override the default values.
