Notifications by POST Category

I realise that this question has been answered before, however, I need specific details with regards to whether this plugin can be extended to enable website visitors to subscribe to automatic notifications for published posts assigned specific POST categories? And, importantly, when post categories are created, edited or deleted in the WordPress admin, would manual changes to the code and/or OneSignal Audience Segments Setup be required or can that be automated too?
