Widgets and Categories

    I have just started building my website and have added a number of categories. I then went to widgets and added categories to the sidebar. When I go into my site the only category that shows up in the ctegory widget in the sidebar is general. None of my other categories show.
    I really would like to have a category list that will show on every page of my site so that visitors can get to any category from every page. Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong?

    The category widget only lists categories which are in use. Currently, your only post is under the General category, which is why only the General category is listed by the widget. Just start adding more posts under other categories.

    I see so only once I have actually published posts in categories will the category show up in the widget. Thank you – thought I was going mad!!!
