I use Menubar. It works very well.
Had a look but too fiddly for novices.
Any other suggestions?

Failing that, use a theme with a menu already built-in such as twentyten.

so you don’t want a drop-down menu? Just a list of links arranged horizontally? I’d use the built-in the WordPress 3.0 Menu system for that – put a few lines into your functions.css & style.css and then configure the menu though the admin panel
