Center footer

I’ve made a child theme for storefront and cannot seem to center the footer contents. Here is what I’ve put in my style.css and it doesn’t seem to help

/* center site-footer */
.footer-credits {
text-align: center;
}

any help would be appreciated (I have used search but none of the replies worked for me)
