• Just been upgrading to 3.0.1 today.

I have had to do this manually as I kept getting errors about creating a file?

I thin had problems upgrading manually as permissions were being denied.
I then spoke to my host provider who reset ALL my permission to writable.

I could then upgrade manually. ( I tried automatically upgrading again this did not work).

I have lost ALL my plug-ins and themes. Not a major problem.

I have also lost ALL my images from my posts as I no longer have an uploads folder in my wp-content file.

Now I have to begin the laborious task of adding images to all my post again…….

…however, here’s my main problem…I cannot manually add pictures as I get the following error message….

Unable to create directory /home/sites/vip???????/httpd/htdocs/wp-content/uploads/2010/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    a. How do I get around this?
    b. Should I reset my permission? And to what ? As it is also affecting some themes

Before you ask..no I didnt back up! I thought backups were covered in my weekly back up from WordPress but I now realise much to my chagrin that thats just the mySQL dbase which luckily I still have.

So…all in all a good Saturday afternoon!!!
All part of the learning curve…time for a coffee

Also when trying to add plug-ins automatically I get the following error message:

    Could not create directory. /htdocs

I got the same error message when trying to add photos as well and I haven’t even upgraded to 3.0.1 yet! I thought the problem started because I recently changed hosting providers but sounds like its a WordPress deal. What gives?!

I’ve had the same host for some time. Did get my host to change permissions this is where the problem may lie? But not sure.
I am thinking of changing to a WordPress friendly host with regular backups so I can avoid these problems.

Change permissions of wp-content to 777

or you can create this download folder

Finally decided to go back to an earlier database and copies of site files, gained access and can now upload photos, however now none of my old photos are available!

    chris,

did contacting your hosting provider help for you? I’ve been banging my head against the wall with the same issues you listed above and NOTHING is helping. I’ve changed the wp-content permissions to 777 and still nothing. I haven’t contacted the host yet, and will probably do that tomorrow… just wondering if your issues were ever solved. This wasn’t an issue in the slightest before the upgrade. SO frustrating.
