Syncing media library with existing uploads folder

Hey,

I’ve recently set up my company’s wordpress-based site on a new host and copied over the uploads folder. My boss freaked out because all the images were missing from the media library and it’s only displaying the iamges we’ve uploaded since the move.

Another thing to note is that newly updated images are being automatically uploaded into the 2008/09 folder (the website was originally set up around then), instead of a current 2010/08 folder (which has not been generated).

Also noting that this is a completely new installation of WordPress, and the database from the old site (which ran on 2.7.1 was lost because the old host sucked – we just had the XML export file which we used to populate the database on the new installation.

Is there something I can do to make the current media library sync up with the existing uploads folder so it displays all uploaded images and uploads new images to the appropriately dated folder?
