Editing Post Layout… HELP!

I am interested in creating a custom layout for my post feed and single posts, and I am rather inexperienced when it comes to CSS. Here (http://thecrisisfilm.com/wordpress/blog/) is what my post feed looks like. I want to simplify my feed, with only a thumbnail left aligned and all of the text to the right, while still maintaining the same appearance of my singles. I would like my feed and single posts to look similar to what is found on this (http://www.nicekicks.com). I have created a single.php file to begin, but I have no idea how to to code it to rearrange the different elements of the layout (date, title, image, content) etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
