Thanks for your reply. I haven’t been able to get the install script started so my blog isn’t working. One of the requirements to get the blog active is having the server running, that’s why I asked the question. Any other ideas about how to know if the server is runnng?

    Where are you hosted ?
I didn’t know the basis for your question, hence my brief reply.

    Do you have phpmyadmin ?

Can you provide us with a link to the site in question?

Does your host provide phpMyAdmin? If so can you login and use phpmyadmin to check if the database is running? (If it’s not then you wont be able to browse tables using phpmyadmin).

Why don’t you ask your host, if you’re in doubt, anyways? They’d be able to help in ways we won’t.

Thanks guys, I’m hosted at http://www.qualityhostonline.com and, yes my site has phpadmin. When I look there I see the db is installed but there are no tables. Someone here said that when WP gets installed it will create tables. I don’t know how to see if it’s running.

    My url for is http://www.scoremoreclients.com.

When I attempt to run the install script by putting this in my browser
    http://scoremoreclients.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
I get a “page not found” error message.

Thanks again guys, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your help.

http://www.scoremoreclients.com/blog/ returns a 404 page not found too.

Check again, if you created the blog directory as a subfolder of public_html or www or whatever your root for the publicly viewable pages on your website is, that is, wherever the file index.html that display when http://www.scoremoreclients.com/ is accessed is.

    Ah………………this is a different problem 🙂

When you unzipped WP, it should have done so to create a folder inside which were 4 more folders and a stack of files
Did yours unzip to just the one folder and a ton of files ?

Are you sure the /blog/ directory exists? I get a 404 when I try to go to it.

There’s more about the problem at http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=26269

ealvin, please follow up only on this thread.

blog is a subdirectory of the root http://www.scoremoreclients.com. The four directories and 26 files from the wp directory are inside the blog directory on my site. I’m sure the blog directory exists. I see it in the File Manager of the site. Since the install hasn’t happened yet would you see a page when you click on http://www.scoremoreclients.com/blog?

I’ll go back to the other post, I thought most of what was dealt with there was covered in this one. Thanks again.

When I try to go to http://www.scoremoreclients.com/blog/ I get
The requested URL /blog/ was not found on this server.

ealvin, I guess within the root http://www.scoremoreclients.com, there are other directories, besides blog, can you list them here, please?

Dave, should there be a page if you use the blog subdirectory and the blog hasn’t been created yet?

earthik, here’s what else is there.

    .autorespond 700
    .fantasticodata 755
    .trash 700
    blog 755
    etc 755
    mail 770
    public_ftp 755
    public_html 750
    tmp 700
    www 750
    Create New File
    .autorespond-loopprotect 0 k 600
    .contactemail 0 k 600
    .lastlogin 0 k 600
    .spamkey 0 k 600

    That’s it.

Yes, you will still see something even though the directory is empty. If you go to http://www.stinner.com/sounds/ you will see a page come up even though there is nothing in the directory. Looking over the list you gave, I would guess the reason it’s not working is because your blog directory should be in either the www or public_html directory.

I agree. The directory “blog” should be in the directory “public_html”. That is the alias that the iis or apache server is looking for when you type scoremoreclients.com/blog/. Imagine it like a shortcut on your desktop. scoremoreclients.com is a shortcut to something like var/www/vir_host/public_html/index.html. Of course, I made all of those directories up.

If you put the dir “blog” in the root folder of your account, it will be ignored. Does that make sense? What does all that mean?

Move (not copy) the directory “blog” into “public_html” and start the install process over again. That should do it.
