I sell T-Shirts and Hoodies that are personalized once the customer places an order. My issue is that I am not sure how to set up the inventory to keep track of the shirts. Being a small company (at the moment) we don’t have hundreds of shirts. An example would be:

I have 4 White XL T-Shirts, 2 Blue XL T-Shirts, 3 Tan XL T-Shirts. When the customer selects the color and the size they want from the list of attributes/variations i have set up. (In this case color and size), I don’t know how to get the inventory to adjust when the customer selects XL and Blue.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Ken

I understand that you want to find a way to track the inventory of the variations of the products.

Please note that for variable products, you can manage stock either at the product level (parent) or at the variation level.

If you enable stock management at the variation level, then the product stock is ignored. Sales will lead to a reduction in the variation stock but not on the parent stock.

If you’d like to manage stock at the product level, you will need to disable stock management at the variation level.

In other words, if you’ve enabled stock management and defined stock both at product level and at variation level, only the variation level stock will be deducted during purchases. The parent stock will be ignored in this case.

For reference, here’s our documentation on inventory management in variable products: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/variable-product/#inventory-management.

Please let us know if you require further help. Thanks!

The ‘proper’ way to this would be using ATUM and their Product Levels add-on to do a ‘bill of materials’

You could also use any of the Product Bundle type plugins – essentially each shirt/hoody would be a ‘bundle’ made up of just the blank garment.
