Does changing Post Type do redirect for old URL?

I have a blog post at (https://mes200.wpengine.com/blog/how-accurate-is-google-earth-elevation/), and after I change the post type from post to docs ( a custom type), the URL is now at https://mes200.wpengine.com/blog/how-accurate-is-google-earth-elevation/.

I’m fine with this, but I can’t help and wonder whether the link https://mes200.wpengine.com/blog/how-accurate-is-google-earth-elevation/ is and will always remain pointing to the right content https://mes200.wpengine.com/blog/how-accurate-is-google-earth-elevation/?

Will the redirection works always? Or I have to use another plugin do the the redirection mapping? I afraid that if I don’t do anything, those who link to https://mes200.wpengine.com/blog/how-accurate-is-google-earth-elevation/ might find themselves not accessing the page after a while.
