Tweaking Twenty Ten theme: adding wp-cycle below header

Hello all,

I would like to add a full-width wp-cycle plugin slideshow beneath the nav bar in the Twenty Ten theme (0 margin, 0 padding between the nav bar and the slideshow). I would like to then have a content/sidebar layout below that. And, I only want this slideshow to appear on the home page (a static one).

I know very little php. I assume the slideshow (it can be added via php or a shortcode) will need to be appended to the header in the header.php file. If so, what kind of function would make it appear on just the home page? Or is a custom home.php template needed instead?

I have no idea what to do! Can anyone help me accomplish this?
