I have a Fixed widget in my desktop right side bar.
    It works GREAT. Thank you.
I use relatively unusual/complex conditions to set VISIBILITY of certain fixed widgets for certain types of content

However I am considering what to do about AMP.

the same fixed widget, by default on AMP, appears at the end.

    1. I really just need to disable it.

What I need instead is a thin sticky bar for the top of the screen with a cut down message version of the desktop version. And a link to the same place.

    I’m a reasonably long-standing user/admin of wordpress

    2. Can I use your widget in some way to achieve that? and/or can you recommend an alternative?

    Hey the5krunner,

    thanks for reaching out.

The Fixed Widget scripts are disabled on AMP because there is no equivalent on AMP to make a widget sticky. When you look at a small device – AMP or not – the sidebar normally goes below the main content. This is probably why you see the widget at the end.

There is no solution in Fixed Widget and I don’t intend to add one because of AMP being on a decline. Some browsers and search engines just announced that they don’t show AMP sites anymore and then there are also legal issues currently being investigated. While AMP creates fast sites, the current situation does not justify an investment in it.

If you google for “sticky amp” or “fixed amp” then you will find tutorials on how to code something like this. I am not aware of a plugin that could convert existing widgets into fixed AMP elements, though.

If you find a solution that could help others then I would appreciate it if you added a reply here.

    Good luck!
    Thomas

I was thinking of something along the lines of MyStickyMenu, which adds a bar at the top of the screen on mobile. I was thinking generic mobile when i incorrectly specified the word ‘AMP’.

yes, i think it would be very difficult to convert a large rightbar widget to a potentially small sticky thing at the top of a page.

anyway. I need to investigate this further as I am having success with conversions from your fixed widget and my smartphone traffic proportions are increasing.
