Textile 2 Cheerleader

Does anyone share my interest in Textile 2 as demo’d here?
What I especially like is the ability to get the ugly URL’s out of your text. With textile 2 you replace link URL’s and image URL’s with codes you can refer to at the end. It allows you to write this:
"Check out this page":1 for a clear explanation of when and how to use the right hand rule(s).

I think this is a great advantage on WP when we are composing in these little text boxes. It seems like a great opportunity to leverage both WP and Textile 2 by enhancing WP’s default compose box with Textile 2.
There is a WP plugin for Textile 2 available but it has not been updated in a while and does not support image URL like [4] in the example above.
Does anyone else know of a better way to use Textile 2 in WordPress? Does anyone know of other efforts underway?
If this looks interesting to you I encourage you to check out Textile 2. My compliments to the man behind Textile and the folks who wrapped it up for WordPress.
