How can posts be ranked based on the number of votes?
I may suggest you check out the wpDiscuz – Widgets addon. It allows displaying the Top Rated Posts as well.
In general, it has six tabs:
1. Most voted comments,
2. Active comment threads,
3. Most commented posts,
4. Recent Comments,
5. Active comment authors,
6. Top Rated Posts
You can use those widgets together with Tabbed layout or separately as a simple widget. You can enable/disable each widget Tab individually.
