• Hi!

At the moment I’ve got 232 websites linked to Wordfence Central, but I’m getting crazy of all the alerts when WordPress has an update available. For minor updates it’s not a big issue, because they are installed within a few hours, but with major updates like 5.9 it’s good to wait a bit before updating all sites. In the meantime they send multiple alerts per day per site, so my Slack monitoring channel is beeping the whole day. I can disable alerts, but then I also miss real High Severity Problems.

Is it an idea to lower the severity of a major WP update? At least for a week or so? After all it’s not severe, because these releases should not contain security issues. It becomes a more pressing issue after a certain time, for example after the next major release.

    Thanks Jos

Hi @josklever, thanks for getting in touch!

Currently, I don’t see a combination of settings where this could be fully avoided and still receive other critical alerts. We do have a development ticket open to make major WordPress releases a lower priority, and separately list if you have minor updates pending. This would mean a site on 5.8.3 with no 5.8.4 available, the upgrade to 5.9 wouldn’t be critical.

All customer suggestions go towards strengthening a case for including it in a release sooner rather than later so I’ve made sure to note your request with the team. I naturally can’t promise exact delivery timescales here on the forums but everything will be discussed.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi @wfpeter,

WordPress 6.0 was just released and my monitoring system is doing overtime again. I’m sorry, that this issue hasn’t been changed yet and there have been no status update.

Can you give an update about this issue?

    Thanks,
    Jos

The internal case number on this is FB4041 and it is slated for the August 2022 release of the plugin unless something comes up in testing. The case primarily addresses alert severity for major/minor release alerts of WordPress core. We do not have a case open for muting notifications as that would likely be considered counterproductive.

My apologies but I was looking at the wrong deployment. The Wordfence 7.8.0 version is scheduled for early September not late August. That’s dependent on development delays, testing, issues found, etc of course.
