• Breaking people’s websites without warning isn’t cool. I understand you want to get paid for your work, but maybe try adding new value rather than stripping it out if you want to monetize your work. That approach might also be compatible with an annual charge, otherwise you’re just charging for the same thing over and over again, which also isn’t cool.

For those who pay to have their websites managed by someone, this amounts to extortion – pay us or pay someone else (likely both) or your website will stop working.

Login No Captcha reCAPTCHA works very well for login/registration pages and is open-source.

    Hello @brandondb

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We have highlighted this change on all the plugin’s documentation, including the release notes, the change log, and the support forums, and clearly highlighting them as breaking changes, so users can read about the change before upgrading.

We also understand that this can have a negative impact on your operations. To this end we are offering a 3-month unlimited sites license, giving everyone enough time to decide which plugin is the right choice for them. You can request yours by submitting this form.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

@robert681 I think it’s fair for the OP to mention (though not link to) plugins that offer that capability, though they’re mistaken in saying yours is not open source.

@sterndata Perhaps ‘free’ would have been a better descriptor. It’s not clear to me how disabling an existing function in GPL-licensed software so you can charge for it is consistent with the terms of the license – I suppose this is the reason for the ‘bug fix’ narrative.

Regardless, brandon, the developer has chosen this path and beating on them is not helpful. GPL has nothing to do with whether you can charge for software. So, take the free license and use the 3 months to find another plugin. And be kind; you got a lot of functionality for free for a time. It was a gift.
