Using the ad unit feature

I am new to wordpress and I am having trouble making sense of the Google Adsense feature. When I put in the links they never show up. I have no clue how to use this feature. I don’t know what the Basic, Appearance,Advanced columns are supposed to do. Then there is the sections that says “wrap html…before and after. What is that?

Ok, I put in my first link to AlertPay and I want to put in similar ones for other places I affiliate with. I am so confused can someone please help. I need instructions not suggestions on how to use Adsense properly.
