On screen order confirmation error ‘Bad Gateway’

    Updated WooCommerce and Braintree, now when a customer places an order, the order goes through and the customer will get an email confirmation but on the screen the customer gets a red X, sometimes followed by ‘Bad Gteway’, and his info will still show up in the checkout fields, making him think the order has not gone through.

    Hi @daviday,

    Sorry to hear you’re having trouble after updating!

    Could you share your current System Status Report? You can get it by navigating to the WooCommerce / Status section of your site. Once there, click on the Get system report button and then copy it by clicking on the Copy for support button. Then paste it here.

    Does this happen with every order and are you able to replicate it when testing it yourself?

    If so, it may be worth checking for conflicts caused by other plugins and/or your theme.

    The best way to determine if the issue is being caused by a theme or plugin is to temporarily switch your theme to Storefront and disable all plugins except for WooCommerce and Braintree for WooCommerce Payment Gateway. Then test to see if the issue is resolved by placing a test order.

    To figure out which plugin is causing the problem – reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.

    In our tests this happens to new users, logged in users do not get this error.

    Hey again!

    It looks like there’s a lot going on on the site, it’s quite customized with many moving pieces.

    The best way to try to replicate/narrow this down is going to be a conflict test on a staging site, with Braintree in sandbox mode.

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

    You can clone your site to a staging environment and perform tests without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging(https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-staging/) plugin.`
