Changing my blog’s URL

    I need to change the URL of my blog from a sub-domain address to a new address. I found this article called changing the site URL. I read through it multiple times but don’t understand it because I don’t know a lot about how servers work. Could someone explain or direct me to an article about the best approach to change my blogs domain from a sub domain on one server to a completely new domain? And how much time should i expect the move to take? Thanks for any help you can provide!

    You will actually have to do this on your server. Depending on which server host you use, the control panel could be different. Do a search for redirecting urls.

    Thanks for the help. So right now my wordpress is located on a sub-domain so if I registered “example.com” could I redirect that new URL to my current wordpress? Would all of the links to posts and pages change to that new URL? That would be a lot easier if I could just redirect everything instead of moving it to a new server.
