Categories disappeared

    Somehow my categories and tags have all disappeared so posts are not showing up on the site because their previously assigned categories have disappeared. I tried recreating the categories but it won’t allow me to, saying that the categories already exist. I tried creating a completely new category and then assigned it to a post but it won’t save.
    Anyone know if there is some php file or something that I need to edit? When I’m in the Edit Post page on the dashboard, all the categories are listed in Most Used on the categories module. However, they’re not listed in All Categories.
    Someone please help.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?
