HTML map tags

I’ve been trying to create a united states map where all of the states direct to seperate pages. At first I used Photoshop to slice up a map and then linked the slices. This worked perfectly as an HTML document but when I entered the HTML into wordpress it was completely butchered. Is there any other possible way to do this? I’d like to avoid flash. I read about an HTML map tag that I thought might work but will wordpress render that tag correctly?
