Importing old WordPress.com to WordPress.org – time??

I installed WordPress and have been trying to import the XML file for my old WordPress.com blog for over an hour. How long should it take to import the file to my new domain? I’m afraid it’s crashed, but I don’t want to stop the whole process if it’s still working. FYI, I’m importing over a year of almost-daily posting with images. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
