Specific content background on home page?

Hello!
I’m relatively new to the CSS/Wordpress scene and was wondering if anyone knows of a code (or if it’s even possible) to add a specific background image to the main content part on the home page.

Basically, here’s my blog:

Here’s what I want it to look like:

I’m tweaking the design of my theme and want to get ride of the white around the particular feature image. I know how to change the overall background color, but I just want it in that one section on the homepage. Help?
